Hyundai Motor Group is taking steps to discover and support the creative activities of next-generation media artists. On the 19th, Hyundai Motor Group announced that it held the award ceremony for the ‘3rd VH Award’ at the Mabuk Campus of the Hyundai Motor Group Human Resources Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

The VH Award is a media art competition designed to discover emerging Korean artists and support their creative activities. The selected works will be exhibited at the Vision Hall Media Wall located at the Mabuk Campus of Hyundai Motor Group’s Human Resources Development Center. Vision Hall is a media art gallery visited by 40,000 Hyundai Motor Group employees and external visitors annually. It serves as a platform for visitors to share creative ideas and communicate Hyundai Motor Group's management philosophy and vision through cultural and artistic works.

At the award ceremony, three finalists—Seo Dongju, Chan Sook Choi, and Cho Younggak—were recognized, with Seo Dongju’s work, A Thousand Horizons, winning the Grand Prix. This artwork metaphorically portrays the image of horizons through the repetitive action of flipping through the pages of a paper book, capturing the resulting sounds and visuals. By using motion graphics and high-resolution digital filming techniques, Seo explores the contemplative, performative, and communicative dimensions of the traditional medium of paper books.

The 3rd VH Award was judged by esteemed figures from the global media art field, including Martin Honzik, Senior Director of the Ars Electronica Festival in Austria; Bernhard Serexhe, a renowned media art curator; and curator Choi Dooeun. Their participation ensured fairness and expertise in the judging process.

Hyundai Motor Group awarded Seo Dongju a Grand Prix prize of 30 million KRW. Additionally, the three finalists received the opportunity to showcase their works at Vision Hall for approximately one year starting in March, as well as at the world-renowned ‘Ars Electronica Festival’ in Linz, Austria, in September.

To further support the creative freedom of the selected artists, Hyundai Motor Group provided each of them with a production grant of 30 million KRW in advance. The artists also received three weeks of mentoring and educational support at the Ars Electronica Center, one of the world’s leading media art institutions.

Jo Wonhong, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Motor Company’s Customer Experience Division, delivered a congratulatory message, stating, “The winning works of this year’s VH Award not only achieved technical perfection but also raised social, environmental, and philosophical questions relevant to the future of humanity. We will continue to support the VH Award and Vision Hall as platforms for next-generation media artists to explore and express their experimental senses.”

Now in its third edition, the VH Award has grown into a significant platform for emerging media artists, offering them opportunities to exhibit their works both domestically and internationally. The award also provides mentorship programs at world-class media art institutions, establishing itself as a gateway for rising talents in the media art field.

The VH Award is recognized as a prime example of Hyundai Motor Group’s corporate cultural and artistic sponsorship, embodying its management philosophy and vision of creating a new future and contributing to human society through creative thinking and continuous challenges.
