ZER01NE, an open innovation platform sponsored by Hyundai Motor Group, will hold ZER01NE Day 2018 from October 19 to 22, engaging with the public through a wide range of content driven by imagination and creativity.

ZER01NE is a new-concept open innovation platform launched in March on Gangnam-daero in Seocho-gu, Seoul, with the aim of fostering Korea’s creative ecosystem.

ZER01NE Day 2018 will bring together artists and startups that have participated in ZER01NE as well as promising startups from across Korea to present their projects and business models, while cultivating emerging creative talent through various forms of exchange. The four-day event will take place from October 19 to 22 at the former Hyundai Motor Wonhyo-ro Service Center site, running daily from noon to 9 p.m.

A ZER01NE representative said, “In line with ZER01NE’s goal of building a creative ecosystem, we planned ZER01NE Day as a public engagement event to broaden the foundations of creativity. ZER01NE will continue striving to serve as a playground for creative talent, providing an environment in which creators are valued and can freely realize their creativity.”

The theme of the inaugural ZER01NE Day is “Create Your ( ).” The “( )” represents a blank space to be filled by the audience, signifying that everyone participating in ZER01NE Day can become a “creator.”

In March, ZER01NE selected 20 artists and seven startups and has since operated programs supporting and fostering new creative activities.

The outcomes and processes developed through organic exchanges among creators will be presented in an open-studio format, offering visitors new sources of imagination. In particular, the event will showcase entirely new directions distinct from the artists’ previous works, along with collaborations between artists and between artists and startups.

Projects presented at the event include Big Data, and So: Food, Clothing, and Shelter, a collaborative project by Yangachi, Lee Jangwon, Dongwook Kim, and Jin-Kyung Jeon; a collaboration between Material Research Lab (MR Lab), consisting of Dakd Jung, Hoonida Kim, Cho Ho Young, Sungbaek Kim, and four other artists, and the startup M.O.P; Seoul LiDARs, a project group consisting of Sookyun Yang, Jinoon Choi, and Hyun Parke; the collaborative project team Project Momentum by Seungsoon Park and Jun Hyoung San; Pink Nation, a collaborative project by Nahee Kim, Jungho Oak, and Moonjung Hwang; as well as individual projects by Byung Il Choi, Youngjun Choi, and Chris Shen.

Explanatory texts will be provided alongside all works to help visitors better understand them, while audio guides featuring the artists’ own voices will also be available through a mobile website.

In addition, major corporate accelerators and their affiliated startups will operate dedicated booths where they can introduce their companies and exhibit and promote their products.

Through programs that allow startups, investors, aspiring entrepreneurs, job seekers, and the general public to meet and communicate freely, the event aims to encourage organic matchmaking among participants.

Throughout the event, the open stage will host discussions and presentations on a range of topics. On October 19, industry experts will participate in discussions on “AI and Manufacturing,” accompanied by presentations from various startups. On October 20, artists, startups, and advisors who have participated in ZER01NE will take part in a talk show about ZER01NE and creative practice.

On October 21, participants in the “Creator Camp” will present works produced on-site during ZER01NE Day. On October 22, the final day of the event, a MeetUp and presentations featuring startups in advanced IT fields will take place.

An information session for the recruitment of “ZER01NE Creators,” who will receive support from ZER01NE in the following year, will also be held during ZER01NE Day.

Creators from a wide range of fields—including artists, researchers, engineers, and aspiring entrepreneurs—who are at least 19 years old and currently reside in Korea may apply regardless of nationality.

Those selected as “ZER01NE Creators” will receive project funding, activity stipends, and workspace, as well as access to various commercialization programs and networking opportunities.

Launched in March with sponsorship from Hyundai Motor Group, ZER01NE is a new open innovation platform that aims to build a creative ecosystem in which creative talent is given opportunities to fully exercise their imagination and receive fair compensation for their creativity.
