《Things, Traces Memories》 introduces diverse reflections on “things” we wish to protect, by interconnecting attitudes toward life that seek fundamental vitality with traces revealed through generation and disappearance. The exhibition also reveals concerns that remain wary of human-made orders and desires, through reflections on the original nature of objects and phenomena encountered in everyday life.

The 11 participating artists question things we have usually turned away from in a fragmentary way, and present their value through forming relationships with existence. They explore what coexists in contemporary society but has been lost in nature and everyday life, what is invisible, and what cannot be thrown away.

Through this, the exhibition moves one step beyond the beautiful feelings commonly experienced around Daecheong Lake, Miho River, and Musimcheon, and shows traces that lead to memory, generation, and disappearance. At the same time, it confronts memories that actually exist around us but do not appear directly, left behind amid migration and disconnection occurring in urban environments, like objects destined for disposal.

Through collecting and recording, the exhibition sheds light on beings that must not be lost: things discarded every day, and traces remembered by us at the moment when life that seemed as if it would continue comes to an end.

Alongside the exhibition, records by participants in “Daecheongho Sseudam Sseudam,” held as a related program of the “Daecheongho Environmental Art Project,” and the “Daecheongho Environmental Art Platform,” the result of the “2021 Smart Public Museum and Art Museum Establishment Support Project,” will be presented in the newly created museum lobby and third-floor space.
