As in political corruption (to become corrupt) and food spoilage (to rot), the Korean word “부패” can refer to contamination and deterioration through homophonic meanings. In this exhibition, however, the term is reinterpreted through the characters 浮, meaning “to float,” and 輩, meaning “a group,” to signify a “floating multitude.”

To float may describe an object suspended in a state of weightlessness, but it may also evoke our own unsettled moods and circumstances, as though we ourselves have been cast adrift.

As part of this floating multitude, the exhibition visualizes the distinct qualities of drifting embodied by people of our time who wander without a place to settle or a destination toward which to go.
