Gallery Chosun presents Eve Kwak’s exhibition 《All Flat Things Happen at the Same Time》 from August 12 to August 25. This exhibition offers a broader view of the artist’s practice, which has consistently explored systems and environments through the spatial element of architecture.

The exhibition takes place across three different locations. At Gallery Chosun, Kwak presents sculptures concerning the formation and image of architectural space, as well as the ways in which it is consumed—subjects she has continued to explore. Step(2015) is installed on the staircase at the entrance leading down to the basement exhibition space; it is a sculpture that modifies the actual size and height of the stairs.

The structure, with a reduced stride, becomes a steep slope, and over the course of the exhibition, the sculpture is completed as it becomes stained and worn through the footsteps of people moving up and down.

Upon entering the exhibition space, viewers encounter Face to Face(2015), which becomes a pixel that creates another variable space within the exhibition space. Assembled in the form of boxes, the work can be unfolded or become three-dimensional, producing a fluid landscape. On one side of the exhibition space, a set is installed that sculpturally transforms the book Different 13 Kinds(2014).

This book was made in reference to floor-plan information from a specific apartment building under construction in 2014, and its pages are layered according to the number of units and processed so that they can be cut out.

In this exhibition, during the exhibition period, the perforated lines of the book are torn out and turned into sculpture, while the hollowed-out and newly generated spaces, as well as the subtle emotions that arise in the process, are filmed. When filming is not taking place, video footage corresponding to the amount already recorded is screened.
