The SeMA Nanji Residency of the Seoul Museum of Art (Director Choi Hyo-jun) will hold an “Open Studio” event on April 14 and 15 to introduce this year’s resident artists and researchers.

Established in 2006 by converting an unused facility in Nanji Hangang Park, SeMA Nanji Residency is an artist residency operated by the Seoul Museum of Art. In addition to providing studio spaces, it offers a wide range of support programs, including exhibition planning and research through programs such as 《NANJI ART SHOW》 and the Art Critic Workshop, as well as international exchanges with overseas artists and institutions.

This Open Studio is the first official event to introduce the artists and researchers who joined the residency in January to art professionals and the public. It offers an early look at the studios where active creative work will continue through the end of the year.

The 11th cohort consists of artists Seulki Ki, Sejin Kim, Woong Hyun Kim, Inbai Kim, Mo Kim, Rho Eunjoo, mixrice, Gwangsoo Park, Park Sunmin, Mire Lee, Joungmin Yi, Lee Hangjun, Jo Seub, Jeamin Cha, Daejin Choi, Choi Haeri, and Euyoung Hong, as well as researchers Junghyun Kim and Enna Bae.

In conjunction with the event, the SeMA Nanji Exhibition Hall will present 《Icosahedron Spectroscope》, the first exhibition of the 《2017 NANJI ART SHOW》. Featuring all of the year’s domestic resident artists, the exhibition asks each artist or researcher to randomly select another participant through a draw and present a visual response based on their impression of that participant’s work.

Curated by Mo Kim, a member of the 11th cohort, the exhibition invites one artist to reflect on another artist’s practice, with the intention of discovering “unexpected territories” through the process. The program also includes 《Screening in Nanji》, featuring video works by resident artists from Korea and abroad.
