The DOOSAN Yonkang Foundation held the award ceremony for the 8th DOOSAN Yonkang Arts Award at the DOOSAN Art Center in Jongno 5-ga, Seoul, on the 20th, with Chairman Park Yong-hyun in attendance. The DOOSAN Yonkang Arts Award is divided into two categories—performance and visual arts—and is awarded to one recipient in each category annually. This year, Lee Yeon-ju, the director of the theater company ‘The Telephone Rings’, was selected for the performance category, while Hayoun Kwon was chosen as the recipient for the visual arts category.

The award provides a total of 240 million KRW (approximately $180,000 USD) in financial support, including prize money and activity assistance. The performance category winner receives 30 million KRW in prize money and 100 million KRW in funding for a new production. The visual arts category winner receives 10 million KRW in prize money, along with a one-year residency at DOOSAN Residency New York (including airfare and living expenses), as well as solo exhibitions at DOOSAN Gallery Seoul and DOOSAN Gallery New York, amounting to 100 million KRW in total support.

Chairman Park Yong-hyun stated, "I am delighted to meet young and talented artists who will lead the future of our cultural and artistic scene. This year is especially meaningful as it marks the 10th anniversary of the DOOSAN Art Center. I hope that this award serves as an opportunity for the winners to expand their artistic practice while receiving greater attention from the public."

The DOOSAN Yonkang Arts Award was established in 2010 in honor of the late Park Doo-byung, the founding chairman of DOOSAN, who emphasized the importance of nurturing talent. The award selects artists under the age of 40 who have developed a distinctive artistic identity in performance and visual arts and demonstrate strong potential to introduce the excellence of Korean contemporary art to the global stage.
