SO.S (Sarubia Outreach & Support) is a mid- to long-term artist support program newly initiated by Project Space SARUBIA in 2015.

The program focuses on sustaining artists’ creative practices by bringing curators and specialists from various fields into the extensive time, effort, and processes concealed behind creative outcomes such as artworks and exhibitions, allowing them to share the artists’ concerns and explore further possibilities for development.

In June of last year, six artists in total were selected across Groups A, B, and C through an open call, and this exhibition presents the progress of their two-year process while inviting feedback.

The Artist’s Motivation for Participation
Kim sought to expand the spectrum of water and earth—the primary media of her practice—into a range of media, including video and sound, while considering material metaphor and the meaning of time. She hoped to receive diverse advice and engage in in-depth conversations in order to develop these concerns more flexibly through her work.

SARUBIA’s Direction of Support
Juree Kim has explored the cycles and coexistence of life and death, creation and dissolution through sculptural works using earth and water. Moving beyond her previous use of the human body and urban forms as visual metaphors for these themes, she attempted to construct synesthetic situations in which sight, sound, touch, smell, time, and space converge.

The thematic concerns that had previously been read in a linear manner through the phenomenon of solid forms collapsing began to acquire greater depth and breadth through diverse sculptural experiments and spatial arrangements.
