Artstudio Gachang, operated by the Daegu Foundation for Culture, will present 《&》 at Beomeo Art Street from March 15 to April 14, introducing works by its newly selected resident artists.

《&》 carries two meanings: “and” and “to draw a picture.”

In keeping with this theme, the exhibition presents the resident artists’ messages, creative drive and passion, modes of communication, and individual identities.

Artstudio Gachang seeks to distinguish itself as an experimental and contemporary creative space for the visual arts through its residency program, selecting and supporting artists through an annual open call.

Since 2012, the studio has been operated by the Daegu Foundation for Culture and has hosted ten Korean artists and six international artists each year, supporting a wide range of creative activities. This year, artists from Korea and abroad working across various genres have been in residence since January.

This year’s selected artists include Korean artists Kim Seunghyun, Kim Junsung (Dozer Kim), Son Junyoung, Lee Jisun, Lim Jaekang, Chung Yunsu, JIN Minwook, Choi Kyungjin, Seungjoon Choi, and Jungwoo Hong, as well as first-round international residents Michael Wolin from the United States and Pratap Morey from India.

As the first exhibition introducing their works, 《&》 occupies Spaces 1–5 and the entire Wall Gallery at Beomeo Art Street.

Individual works are displayed in the Space galleries, while collaborative projects are presented in the Wall Gallery. The collaborative project consists of large comma-shaped works, each interpreted in the artist’s distinctive style.

Meanwhile, Space Gachang, the exhibition venue of Artstudio Gachang, will host solo exhibitions by the two international artists from March 21 to 31.

These include Michael Wolin’s 《Witness to Time》 and Pratap Morey’s 《Lost Right Angle》.

Michael Wolin studied studio art in New York, United States, graduating in 2009 with a focus on photography. He has participated in the Pingyao International Photography Festival and numerous other exhibitions, and presents works centered on “records of everyday life and time” in this exhibition.

Pratap Morey, an artist from India, presents works that demonstrate an experimental approach distinct from his previous practice, drawing on his unfamiliar experiences in Korea.
