Chongkundang Holdings announced that it had selected three artists—Lee Jae Hoon, Leehaiminsun, and Jeong Zik Seong—as the “Artists of the Year” during the Chongkundang Yesuljisang 2021 Certificate Award Ceremony, held on June 23 at the company’s headquarters in Chungjeongno, Seoul.

The selected artists were recognized for establishing distinctive artistic practices through diverse techniques and materials while making significant contributions to the development of contemporary Korean art. Each artist will receive an annual grant of KRW 10 million over a three-year period, and in the final year of the program, will be given the opportunity to present a curated exhibition.

Lee Jae Hoon, one of this year’s selected artists, remarked, “The Chongkundang Yesuljisang is one of the support programs most anticipated by artists in Korea because it provides not only three years of sustained financial support but also the opportunity to hold a curated exhibition. I hope to devote these valuable three years to my artistic practice and present more mature work.”

Kim Tae-young, CEO of Chongkundang Holdings, stated, “We hope that the Chongkundang Yesuljisang will serve as an important stepping stone for this year’s selected artists. Through continued support and patronage, we will contribute to broadening the foundation of contemporary Korean art.”

The Chongkundang Yesuljisang was established following the proposal of Chairman Lee Jang-han to support emerging artists with strong potential by providing opportunities for artistic creation and exhibition. Each year, a panel of art professionals conducts two rounds of closed-door evaluations to select three painters under the age of 45. Since its inception in 2012, the program has supported a total of 30 artists.
