Chong Kun Dang Holdings (CEO Woo Young-soo) announced that it held the 2019 Chongkundang Yesuljisang Certificate Award Ceremony at The Westin Josun Seoul on April 5, selecting Yooyun Yang, Leeje, and You Hyeonkyeong as this year's recipient artists.

The three artists were selected through two rounds of closed-door evaluations conducted by a jury of art professionals. Eligibility was limited to painters aged 45 and under.

The selected artists were recognized for establishing distinctive artistic practices through strong conceptual foundations and original visual expression. Each artist will receive KRW 10 million annually for three years to support their creative practice, and in the final year of the program will be given the opportunity to present a curated exhibition.

Leeje commented, “Chongkundang Yesuljisang is one of the most anticipated programs among young Korean artists because it provides not only financial support but also the opportunity to present a curated exhibition. From this year onward, I hope to focus entirely on my practice and create strong new work.”

Chongkundang Yesuljisang was established in 2012 by Chong Kun Dang Holdings and the Korea Mecenat Association following a proposal by Chairman Rhee Jang-han to support young artists' creative activities and exhibition opportunities, contribute to the development of Korean contemporary art, and foster an environment in which artists can fully dedicate themselves to their practice.

Woo Young-soo, CEO of Chong Kun Dang Holdings, stated, “We hope this year's selected artists will grow into leading figures in the art world. We will continue to provide every possible support so that talented young artists can fully realize their potential.”

Chong Kun Dang Holdings sponsors the Chongkundang Yesuljisang project through the Art & Business (A&B) partnership together with the Korea Mecenat Association and the alternative art space Art Space Hue. Since 2012, the program has selected and supported three artists each year, benefiting a total of 24 artists to date.

Meanwhile, Chong Kun Dang Holdings will present the 《Chongkundang Yesuljisang Special Exhibition》 at the Sejong Museum of Art from May 3 to 13. The exhibition will bring together works by fifteen artists selected for Chongkundang Yesuljisang between 2012 and 2016.
