The Hanwha Foundation of Culture announced on the 25th that it has selected five artists for the 2026 Youngmin International Artist Residency Grant, an initiative dedicated to discovering and supporting emerging artists who will shape the future of Korea's art scene.

More than 250 emerging artists working across a wide range of disciplines—including contemporary art, craft, design, and architecture—applied for the open call held last November. The selection process consisted of three stages, including document reviews and interviews, and was based on artists' portfolios, activity plans, and residency project proposals. Five artists were ultimately chosen.

The selected artists are Wonwoo Lee (Art Omi, USA), Lee Byungchan (Seven Stones Estate, USA), Yohan Hàn (Art Explora, France), Hojin Yun (Frac des Pays de la Loire, France), and Hansoo Noh (Domaine de Boisbuchet, France). They will participate in their respective residency programs according to the schedules of the partner institutions.

This year, partnerships with Art Explora and Frac des Pays de la Loire in France were newly established, further expanding the foundation's network in France and New York, two strategic regions for the Hanwha Foundation of Culture, which operates the Centre Pompidou Hanwha and Space ZeroOne.

The Hanwha Foundation of Culture provides selected artists with residency and workshop participation fees, accommodation and living expenses, and round-trip airfare, offering comprehensive support for their international creative activities. Following the completion of the residency, the foundation plans to continue supporting the artists' growth through follow-up programs, including regular gatherings, mentoring, and archiving initiatives.

Now in its fourth edition, the Youngmin International Artist Residency Grant continues the legacy of the late Seo Young Min, wife of Hanwha Group Chairman Seung Youn Kim, who took a strong interest during her lifetime in supporting the international advancement of young Korean artists.

Over the past three years, thirteen artists have been selected, gaining creative inspiration and expanding their global networks in major art centers such as New York, London, Paris, the South of France, and Napa Valley.

Artists who previously participated in the program were also featured in the inaugural exhibition of Space ZeroOne, the New York exhibition space that opened last November, demonstrating how the program's support has translated into sustained international activities.

Lee Sungsoo, Chairman of the Hanwha Foundation of Culture, stated, "Through the Youngmin International Artist Residency Grant, the foundation will continue to strengthen its support for emerging artists from various disciplines so that they may sustain their practices on the international stage. In the long term, we also plan to work in connection with Space ZeroOne in New York and Centre Pompidou Hanwha to help build sustainable narratives of artistic growth."
