Installation view of 《Spaceless》 © Embassy of Switzerland in Korea

The Embassy of Switzerland in Korea, which reinterpreted the hanok and was born as a “Swiss Hanok,” is once again transformed into an exhibition space one year after the photography exhibition “Breathing Walls.” Ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Switzerland in 2023, the exhibition is held as a public cultural event and is curated by artist Kyungwoo Chun.

Composed of approximately 60 works by eight young contemporary photographers from Korea and Switzerland, the exhibition allows visitors to experience and view the exterior and interior of the embassy as a single three-dimensional space.

In keeping with the title “Spaceless,” the exhibition experimentally interprets the borderless online space and offline urban environment, presenting the artists’ perspectives on “the perception of urban space, changes in the digital environment, and the society that changes along with them” through photography, video, and photographic installation works.

Rather than relying only on traditional “photography” that records reality, the exhibition creatively unfolds its themes through methods such as the formation of new images through online search terms, automatic shooting using drone cameras, the use of 3D programs, and the reconstruction of already existing images.

Dagmar Schmidt Tartagli, Ambassador of Switzerland to Korea, stated, “I am pleased to have the opportunity, through this first exhibition bringing together artists from both Korea and Switzerland, to exchange each artist’s views and ideas on how human intervention is changing our everyday lives.”

The exhibition will be held at the Embassy of Switzerland in Korea from the 22nd to November 6, and can be viewed by advance reservation. The open talk scheduled for the 26th will provide an opportunity to hear more detailed stories about the exhibition, including introductions to the participating artists’ works and a conversation with architects.
