Installation view of 《Lies》 © SNUMoA

The exhibition 《Lies》 presents works by artists who employ a wide range of strategies rooted in fictional narrative structures. In an age increasingly saturated with information, marked by ever stronger assertions of opinion and a growing tendency for people to believe only what they wish to believe, this exhibition examines how artists perceive and respond to these contemporary conditions.

Their choice of fiction—or lies—as a mode of expression stems from a desire to communicate something more urgently than facts alone can convey, or to provoke surprise in order to deliver their ideas more profoundly.

At times, a carefully constructed fiction can evoke a deeper emotional response than the truth itself. We hope that these artists' imaginative "lies" may become another point of departure for approaching the truth.
