Chong Kun Dang Holdings (CEO Kim Tae-young) announced on the 26th that it held the Chongkundang Yesuljisang 2022 Certificate Award Ceremony at its headquarters in Chungjeong-ro, Seoul, and selected three artists—Siwol Park, Oh Sekyung, and Choi Soo Jung—as this year’s award recipients.

The selected artists will receive an annual creative grant of KRW 10 million for three years and will be given the opportunity to present a curated exhibition in the final year of support.

Chong Kun Dang selected the three artists through two rounds of closed evaluations conducted by a panel of art professionals. The selected artists were highly regarded for their strong artistic vision, potential for future development, and diverse approaches to painting.

Artist Siwol Park has developed a distinctive drawing technique characterized by repeatedly tracing thin lines to create faint and opaque images. Oh Sekyung is known for staging ironic moments from everyday life, social issues, and the absurdity of events through painterly devices such as fire, light, and smoke. Choi Soo Jung challenges conventional approaches to painting through new forms of painterly practice that combine painting, installation, and objects.

Choi Soo Jung stated, “Over the three years of support provided through Chongkundang Yesuljisang, I will devote myself to my artistic practice and present a more profound and developed body of work.”

Kim Tae-young, CEO of Chong Kun Dang Holdings, remarked, “This year marks the tenth anniversary of Chongkundang Yesuljisang. I would like to express my gratitude to the artists selected over the years, many of whom have grown into significant figures within the Korean art scene. We will continue to develop meaningful and practical support programs, including artist exchange initiatives and exhibitions, to foster the growth of emerging artists.”

Chongkundang Yesuljisang was established following a proposal by Chairman Rhee Jang-Han to create an environment in which promising emerging artists could fully develop their creative potential. Since 2012, in partnership with the Korea Mecenat Association and the alternative art space Art Space Hue through the “Art & Business (A&B)” program, the initiative has selected and supported a total of 33 artists.
