BMW will participate as an official partner of Frieze Seoul 2023, the internationally renowned art fair taking place from September 6 to 9 at COEX in Seoul’s Gangnam district. Following its debut as the first Frieze fair in Asia last year, Frieze Seoul 2023 returns for its second edition, bringing together more than 120 leading galleries from around the world.

BMW announced on September 4 that it will operate a BMW Lounge during the fair and exclusively unveil ‘The Electric AI Canvas’ in Korea. Inspired by the upcoming BMW New i5, scheduled for release in October, the installation combines art and technology to create an immersive artistic experience through the use of artificial intelligence.

According to a company representative, “The project presents a unique fusion of art and technology, offering visitors an immersive live art experience powered by AI.”

The fully electric New i5 will be transformed into a dynamic canvas displaying distinctive generative artworks. Works by contemporary artists Esther Mahlangu, Kohei Nawa, Eric N. Mack, Koo Jiyoon, and Bin Woo Hyuk will be featured, while an artwork by artist Soojung Jung will be presented on ‘The Electric AI Canvas’ for the first time at Frieze Seoul 2023.

A special art talk program will also be held on September 7. Curator Gary Yeh, who produced the AI animation, along with artists Soojung Jung and Koo Jiyoon, will participate in a discussion offering in-depth insights into the artworks and the ideas behind the project.

To celebrate its long-standing collaboration with Frieze, BMW has also partnered with the fair to introduce Frieze Music Seoul in Korea for the first time. The live performance, scheduled for September 8 at S-Factory in Seongsu, will feature popular musician Colde, along with special guest performances by APRO, Khakii, and DJ Conan, all artists from Colde’s label, Wavy.

Sangyun Han, CEO of BMW Group Korea, stated, “BMW has long been a committed supporter of culture and the arts around the world. As an official partner of Frieze Seoul, we are delighted to connect art and technology through ‘The Electric AI Canvas’ and offer visitors a unique artistic experience.”
