The Bank of Korea (BOK) announced on the 3rd that it had selected five artists through its Emerging Artists Open Call, organized as part of the Bank’s 63rd anniversary celebrations. The initiative was designed both to support the creative activities of promising emerging artists and to provide visitors to the Bank with opportunities to view high-quality contemporary artworks.

A total of 290 artists applied for the program, resulting in a highly competitive selection ratio of 58 to 1. Following a two-stage review process consisting of a portfolio evaluation by external experts and a presentation and interview round, five emerging artists were selected: Koo Jiyoon, Keem Jiyoung, and Jaemin Jang (painting), Yun Seyeol (Korean painting), and Juneul Huh (photography).

The Bank of Korea plans to receive representative works from the selected artists and present them in a jointly curated exhibition at the Bank of Korea Gallery from the middle of the following month through the end of the year.

This marked the first time that the Bank of Korea had organized an art competition. The open call was open to artists aged forty and under. The Bank is also regarded as a major collector within Korea’s art world, with a collection of more than 1,300 artworks.
