This exhibition is an extension of 《Where Would I Be》, which was held at ERD Busan in 2020. If 《Where Would I Be》 was an outcome that posed questions to both the artist herself and the viewers, 《Backwater》 is a process of searching for the direction toward the goal the artist wishes to move toward.

This exhibition introduces works that reproduce forms that had been isolated somewhere in the artist’s memory. The figures expressed in the works, children, are also people who appear from places unknown to us, with ambiguous gender and nationality. Although the youthful appearances of the children may seem playful, they also appear somehow threatening and defensive.

The image of the gun expressed by the artist is not a medium intended to threaten, but a trigger that contains desire, courage, and hope aimed toward “something,” and it is a kind of device.

Children are greatly influenced by their surrounding environmental elements, quickly absorbing everything and then expressing it. The gray children, consistent in their expressionless faces, project both our image as people living in the present age and the image of contemporary children today.
