Ilwoo Foundation, the public interest foundation affiliated with Hanjin Group, announced on the 11th that artist An Jungju (45) has been selected as the final recipient of the 2025 Ilwoo Art Awards.

Hanjin Group established the Ilwoo Photography Award in 2009 and supported 36 photographers through 13 editions of the competition until 2022. Beginning last year, the award was reorganized and relaunched under the new title Ilwoo Art Awards.

A total of 185 artists applied for the 2025 Ilwoo Art Awards, and following a highly competitive selection process, An Jungju was chosen as the final recipient.

An Jungju previously held the solo exhibition 《kick, clap, hat》 and participated in exhibitions including 《All that Weaves the Universe: A Question of Quantum Entanglements》, 《Back to the Future: An Exploration of Contemporaneity in Korean Contemporary Art》, and 《Watch and Chill 2.0: Streaming Senses》.

An was selected through a rigorous evaluation process that included an initial review of portfolios and project proposals, followed by interviews with the jury. The artist is known for multilayered moving image works that reconstruct sounds and images extracted from everyday life.

The award recipient will present new work through a solo exhibition at Ilwoo Space, the exhibition venue operated by the Ilwoo Foundation. Nam Hwayeon, recipient of the 2024 award, is scheduled to present an exhibition in 2026, while An Jungju, recipient of the 2025 award, will present an exhibition in 2027.

Through the Ilwoo Art Awards, the Ilwoo Foundation selects one emerging or mid-career artist with exceptional talent and dedication each year, supporting their growth into an internationally competitive artist. The award includes KRW 30 million in production support as well as airline tickets valued at KRW 30 million to support artistic activities.

Meanwhile, Hanjin Group operates Ilwoo Space, an exhibition venue located in the lobby of Korean Air’s Seosomun Building, where it continues to present exhibitions of a high standard.
