On November 16, the Doosan Yonkang Foundation held the award ceremony for the 5th DOOSAN Yonkang Arts Awards at Doosan Art Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul, attended by Chairman Park Yong-hyun.

The DOOSAN Yonkang Arts Awards are presented in two categories: performing arts and visual arts. This year, Lee Kyungsung (32), director of Creative VaQi, received the award in the performing arts category. In the visual arts category, Dongju Kang (27), An Jungju (36), and Yunsung Lee (30) were selected as recipients.

The four awardees will receive benefits totaling approximately KRW 400 million, including prize money and support for artistic activities. The recipient in the performing arts category will receive KRW 30 million in prize money along with KRW 70 million in funding for the production of a new performance.

The visual arts recipients will each receive KRW 10 million in prize money as well as support valued at approximately KRW 90 million, including participation in the Doosan Residency New York program and exhibitions at Doosan Gallery Seoul and New York.

The DOOSAN Yonkang Arts Awards were established in 2010, the centennial year of the Doosan Group, in order to continue the late Park Doo-byung’s philosophy emphasizing the importance of nurturing talent. The awards recognize promising artists under the age of forty whose work in the fields of performing and visual arts demonstrates the potential to promote the excellence of Korean art internationally.

At the ceremony, Chairman Park Yong-hyun stated, “Doosan’s philosophy that ‘People are the Future’ applies equally to the field of arts and culture,” adding, “Young artists with potential represent the future of our culture and arts, and supporting their practice is part of Doosan’s role.”
