“I learned so much through Han Sung Motor’s Dream Gream project, and I’m really happy because I feel like I’ve become one step closer to my dream.”

Kim Min-seong (17), who dreams of becoming an artist, could not hide his excitement at 《On Boarding》, a group exhibition for the ‘Dream Gream’ emerging artist incubating program held on the afternoon of the 3rd at Sungkok Art Museum in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

Han Sung Motor, an official dealer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has operated the ‘Dream Gream’ art scholarship project since 2012 in partnership with the Korea Mecenat Association as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives. The program provides middle and high school students aspiring to become artists with mentorship from professional artists as well as a range of artistic experiences.

《On Boarding》 is an exhibition showcasing works by emerging artists and mentors — including art-major university students — who participate in the Dream Gream project by teaching middle and high school students. Through the exhibition, Han Sung Motor aims to support not only the student scholarship recipients but also the mentor artists so they can grow into stable and sustainable professional artists.

The Dream Gream mentor exhibition, held at Sungkok Art Museum from the 3rd through the 13th, featured works by nine mentors: Kim Hanna, Park Geunjung, Oh Hyejun, Woo Minju, Yoon Jiwoo, Jeong Hyunsoo, Chae Dan, Choi Hyeongjun and Hong Jongchan. Established artists Kwon Osang, Lee Wan and Choi Soo Jung also collaborated with the emerging artists in organizing the exhibition.

“On Boarding” refers not only to the act of “boarding a ship,” but also to the process of educating new members with the knowledge, skills and know-how necessary to help them adapt smoothly to an organization.

Kim Min-seong, who has continued to pursue his dream of becoming an artist through the ‘Dream Gream’ project, participated in the exhibition together with his mentor, an emerging artist. “It was great to work alongside my mentor artist and learn different perspectives,” he said.

Among the mentors exhibiting work in the exhibition was artist Chae Dan, who previously participated in the Dream Gream project as a mentee and later returned as a mentor artist. “I’m proud to be able to give back the support I once received,” Chae said. “As a mentee, having the opportunity to meet and work with various artists greatly helped me in choosing my career path. Now that I’m guiding students as a mentor, I feel that I’ve grown as an artist as well.”

Beginning this year, Han Sung Motor has decided to expand the Dream Gream project, which had previously focused on middle and high school students, to include adults developing careers as emerging artists. Through broader support, the company aims to foster a greater number of artistic talents.

A Han Sung Motor official said, “We will continue to support the new challenges and dreams of Dream Gream scholarship students and mentors alike, while taking the lead in realizing even stronger social value.”
