SBS’s social contribution and knowledge-sharing platform, SDF (SBS D Forum), explores key issues facing contemporary society and seeks new insights into them.

This year, SDF will be held on October 30 in a “virtual face-to-face” format that prioritizes audience safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the introduction of a large-scale screen video system enabling real-time, interactive communication with audiences, the forum plans to operate as an online event.

The theme of SDF2020 is 《The World We’ve Never Experienced: New Ways to Survive》. As COVID-19 has spread across the globe, long-standing assumptions and conventions in homes, schools and workplaces have been shaken. Individuals, corporations and governments alike are struggling to develop survival strategies amid growing uncertainty.

Against this backdrop of compounded crises, SDF has been considering what kinds of questions should be posed to society and what preparations are necessary for the future. In particular, after witnessing the difficulties faced by established intellectuals in analyzing and responding to the post-pandemic crisis, SDF launched a new project in search of insight from artists with freer and more flexible ways of thinking.

Over the past several months, SDF carefully documented the conversations and collaborative process shared by the following five artists:

Lee Daehyung, curator (artistic director)
Kim Youngsun, recording artist
Lee Wan, contemporary artist
Woo Jung Choi, composer
HAN Seok Hyun, installation artist

SDF now aims to share with audiences the collective intelligence that emerged as these artists influenced and inspired one another.

Following last week’s introduction to the sound artist team “Jigusaenggak,” this week’s featured artist is contemporary artist Lee Wan. SDF asks for your interest and participation in SDF2020 and the accompanying art project, both taking place on October 30.
