Willing N Dealing presents a solo exhibition by Jang Minseung from March 14 to April 3, featuring works in a variety of formats including photography, furniture, and objects. Comprising photographs and tables from the artist’s previous practice alongside newly produced objects and furniture, the exhibition particularly seeks to propose a broader concept of furniture.

Departing from conventional framing and wall-mounted modes of photographic display, the photographs are either attached to furniture directly made by the artist or placed on the floor, while scenes that inspire his furniture works are presented as file images through video equipment. These photographs are affixed onto surfaces as components of the furniture, becoming both constituent elements and integral parts of the material outcomes revealed throughout the exhibition. In particular, the photographs function as a kind of visual inventory that enables the practice of “be more, seem less,” derived from landscapes the artist has encountered in situ.

The exhibition also reintroduces the ‘T2’ series, table works produced with an emphasis on functionality, which are installed atop plywood structures. The plywood functions simultaneously as a pedestal and as the primary material of the ‘T2’ series itself. In this way, the raw material is presented as another form of furniture that serves to display the furniture works.
