Sindoh, an office solutions company (CEO Woo Suk-hyung, www.sindoh.com), has selected Jihyun Jung, Heaven Baek, and Bona Park for its artist support program, the 3rd SINAP (Sindoh Artist Support Program).

SINAP is a program operated by Sindoh to support emerging artists who will lead contemporary Korean art. Now in its third edition, the program selects three outstanding artists preparing highly accomplished projects and provides financial support for their artistic practices.

For this edition, the selection process began in July of last year, going through artist research and preliminary screenings. Approximately 20 artists were reviewed across different fields of practice, from which nine finalists were selected based on artistic completion and potential for international exchange. After a final presentation (PT) review, Jihyun Jung, Heaven Baek, and Bona Park were chosen as the final three artists.

Jihyun Jung completed a master’s program at the Korea National University of Arts. His work primarily explores the relationship between the individual and society, as well as external landscapes he has experienced, through various media, scales, and installation-based devices.

Heaven Baek majored in Fine Art at RMIT University in Australia, and has developed works in video, installation, and performance that reconstruct the reasons communities are formed, the behavioral scope of their members, and their labor, often incorporating processes of communication with audiences.

Bona Park studied at the Korea National University of Arts and completed her master’s degree at Goldsmiths, University of London. She has actively participated in numerous exhibitions and projects both in Korea and internationally, including representing Korea at the New Museum Triennial in New York in 2013.

The three selected artists will receive grants to support their future works, and the resulting projects or artworks will be exhibited sequentially at Sindoh’s cultural space at its Seoul headquarters later this year.

The jury for the 3rd SINAP included Beatrix Ruf, Director of the Kunsthalle Zürich, and art critic Dong-Yeon Koh. They selected the awardees with a focus on artistic excellence and global competitiveness.

Beatrix Ruf commented, “Overall, I was able to see works of a very high and outstanding level,” adding, “I was particularly drawn to the three artists for their rich imagination and experimental spirit.”

Lee Chul-woo, Director of Sindoh’s PR Team, stated, “A company’s cultural literacy is directly connected to its creativity. Through operating an in-house cultural space and supporting emerging artists, we strive to become a culturally engaged company.”
