Chong Kun Dang Holdings announced on the 17th that it has selected three artists—Changchang Yoo, Hyunsun Jeon, and Sun Choi—for ‘Chongkundang Yesuljisang 2017.’

Chongkundang Yesuljisang is a project designed to contribute to the development of contemporary Korean art by supporting emerging artists with recognized potential, providing them with opportunities for creative work and exhibitions, and fostering their continuous growth.

Chong Kun Dang Holdings conducted two rounds of closed-door evaluations by art professionals, selecting the final three artists based on artistic capability, originality, and potential for growth.

The selected artists were highly evaluated for their distinct individuality, which differentiates them from other artists, and for demonstrating new possibilities for the advancement of Korean art.

Each of the artists selected for Chongkundang Yesuljisang 2017 will receive an annual grant of 10 million KRW for three years. In the final year of support, 2019, they will also be given the opportunity to hold the exhibition 《Chongkundang Yesuljisang Exhibition》.

Hyunsun Jeon, one of this year’s selected artists, stated, “I am very happy to have been selected as an artist for Chongkundang Yesuljisang, as it allows me to focus on my artistic practice in a stable environment. I will use this opportunity as a stepping stone to concentrate on my work and present more in-depth pieces.”

Since 2012, Chong Kun Dang Holdings has supported Chongkundang Yesuljisang through a partnership titled ‘Art & Business (A&B)’ with two organizations: the Korea Mecenat Association and the alternative space ‘Art Space Hue.’ Each year, three artists are selected, and a total of 18 artists have received support to date.

Meanwhile, three artists selected in 2015—Ahn Kyungsoo, Lee Chaeyoung, and Jang Jaemin—are scheduled to present their works at 《The 4th Chongkundang Yesuljisang Exhibition》, which will be held from October 18 to 31 at the Sejong Museum of Art within the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.
