“Melancholic yet cute and bright—the imbalance that defines Yoon Jong Shin’s music”

Q. From the artist’s perspective, what kind of image comes to mind when you think of Yoon Jong Shin?
A. Emotionally, a bittersweet romance. In terms of appearance, he feels like a Japanese actor.

Q. What process was necessary to incorporate the theme of ‘Yoon Jong Shin’ into your own style?
A. I set the theme as “a romance novel that ultimately remains unfinished,” and introduced a girl named Runa-Way, who is always running away, to create an image of a bittersweet romance. Although the content is melancholic, I wanted to express it in as cute and bright a way as possible. I thought that imbalance resonated with Yoon Jong Shin’s music.

Q. Do you have any personal anecdotes related to Yoon Jong Shin or his music that you could share?
A. When I was 20 and listened to The day long ago, I fell in love for the first time.

Q. What kinds of tools do you prefer to use in your work?
A. I tend to use whatever is at hand—acrylic, gouache, animation paint, various inks, enamel, and so on. For sketchbooks, I prefer to work freely and intuitively using Edding pens, ballpoint pens, or markers.

Q. Where can we find more of Changchang Yoo’s work?
A. http://blog.naver.com/moodurm, http://changchangyoo-1974.tumblr.com, https://www.facebook.com/changchang.yoo, and also in 《Sal vol.6》, which will be published in August.
