Hong Kyoungtack, a pop artist known for his hyper-realistic style, is holding a solo exhibition titled 《Great Obsession》 at the Indang Museum of Daegu Health College until the 15th. This exhibition presents not only his representative works such as the ‘Pencil’ series, the ‘Bookshelf’ series, and ‘Funkchestra,’ but also new works from the ‘Hand’ series as well as materials collected by the artist, offering a comprehensive overview of his artistic world.

The artist fills his canvases with everyday objects such as ballpoint pens, pencils, and books—items commonly encountered in daily life—rendered in vivid colors. In the ‘Pencil’ series, dozens of pencils in various forms and colors densely populate the canvas, appearing to burst outward beyond the frame like rockets being launched, with the center evoking a dazzling festival.

In this way, the artist imbues ordinary objects that might otherwise be overlooked with vitality, reminding us that our lives are never trivial. The multicolored subjects filling the canvas without a single empty space display an exaggerated quality reminiscent of cellular division. This serves as an extreme expression of obsession derived from reality and reflects the paranoid tendencies of contemporary society.
