The Ilwoo Foundation, a public-interest foundation under the Hanjin Group, held a “Children’s Photography Workshop” for three days from the 11th to the 13th at the Korean Air Training Center in Singal, Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

A total of 20 children from multicultural families attending the Global Vision School in Oryu-dong, Seoul participated in the program. The participants were selected among students who had a strong interest in photography and possessed basic knowledge through their school’s photography club activities.

During the three-day program, the children received theoretical education on photography, including how to view the world through photography as a tool of communication, as well as how to use and operate cameras in the digital imaging era.

They also took part in hands-on activities such as taking “portrait photos” of one another in groups, printing their photographs directly onto T-shirts, and creating photo albums. The equipment used for the photography classes was sponsored by Canon Korea Consumer Imaging.

The Ilwoo Foundation has been organizing this program since 2010, now in its fifth year, to provide children—who are interested in photography but have limited access to systematic training—with opportunities to experience a new way of seeing the world through a camera lens, thereby fostering creativity, artistic thinking, and future aspirations.

For this year’s workshop, Jeong Kyungja, winner of the 5th Ilwoo Photography Award, and Park Chanmin, winner of the 6th Ilwoo Photography Award, personally participated. They worked with the children on photography and album-making activities, contributing their talents to nurture creativity and inspire future dreams, adding greater significance to the event.

Meanwhile, since establishing the Ilwoo Photography Award in 2009, the Ilwoo Foundation has been discovering and supporting promising photographers with talent and passion. It also actively engages in cultural outreach by hosting free exhibitions of renowned photographers and offering photography lectures for the public at Ilwoo Space, located on the first floor of the Korean Air Building in Seosomun, Seoul.
