The DOOSAN Yeongang
Foundation announced on the 17th that it held the awards ceremony for the 5th
DOOSAN Yeongang Art Award on the 16th at DOOSAN Art Center in Jongno 5-ga,
Seoul.
The DOOSAN Yeongang
Art Award is presented in two categories: Performing Arts and Visual Arts. This
year, the Performing Arts Award was given to Kyungsung Lee (32), CEO of
Creative VaQi. In the Visual Arts category, the award was presented to Dongju
Kang (27), Jungju An (36), and Yunsung Lee (30).
A total of
approximately KRW 400 million worth of benefits, including prize money and
activity support, will be provided to the four award recipients. The recipient
in the Performing Arts category will receive KRW 30 million in prize money
along with approximately KRW 70 million in funding for the production of a new
performance. Each recipient in the Visual Arts category will receive KRW 10
million in prize money, as well as support valued at approximately KRW 90
million, including participation in the DOOSAN Residency New York and
exhibitions at DOOSAN Gallery Seoul and New York.
The DOOSAN Yeongang
Art Award was established in 2010, the 100th anniversary of the birth of the
late Doo-byung Park, the founding chairman of DOOSAN, to carry on his belief in
the importance of nurturing talent. The award selects artists under the age of
40 in the fields of performing and visual arts who demonstrate strong potential
to promote the excellence of Korean art on the global stage.
Park Yong-hyun,
Chairman of the Board, stated, “DOOSAN’s philosophy that ‘people are the
future’ applies equally to the field of culture and the arts. Promising young
artists are the future of our cultural arts, and supporting their activities is
part of DOOSAN’s responsibility.”
