On the 15th, the HOBAN Cultural Foundation (Chairperson Hyunhee Woo) held the awards ceremony for the National Young Artists Art Competition ‘2024 H-EAA’ at Art Space Hohwa in Jung-gu, Seoul.

At the ceremony, certificates and prize money were awarded to seven artists who were finally selected through a portfolio review and on-site artwork evaluation process, following the opening of submissions for the ‘H-EAA’ competition in March.

The Grand Prize was awarded to artist Junho Moon, who created a new material-based landscape painting by utilizing silicone, an unconventional material. His works were praised for expressing light and darkness in a way that clearly differentiates them from traditional landscape painting.

The Excellence Award went to artist Songjun Lee, who explored the concept of infinity using processed stainless-steel spheres and hemispheres. In addition, 08AM (Sejin Park), Minji Kim, Hyunji Park, Eunwoo Jo, and Seong Joon Hong were selected as award-winning artists. The HOBAN Cultural Foundation awarded a total of KRW 50 million in prize money, including KRW 30 million for the Grand Prize and KRW 10 million for the Excellence Award.

The ceremony was attended by approximately 40 guests, including Sangyeol Kim, Chairman of Seoul Shinmun; Hyunhee Woo, Chairperson of the HOBAN Cultural Foundation; Seonggyu Kim, Chairman of HOBAN Group; art critic In Hwang; members of the judging panel; award-winning artists; and other figures from the arts and culture sector.

Since 2017, the HOBAN Cultural Foundation has hosted the ‘H-EAA’ competition annually with the aim of nurturing emerging artists, providing a range of support programs including exhibitions, promotion, and professional matching. To date, a total of 62 artists have benefited from the program.

Hyunhee Woo, Chairperson of the HOBAN Cultural Foundation, stated, “I applaud the passion and potential of young artists who continuously explore their themes and media,” adding, “The HOBAN Cultural Foundation will continue to support the growth of young artists and strive to contribute to the development of the domestic arts and culture sector.”

The ‘2024 H-EAA’ selected artists exhibition, 《Seven Times》, will be held at Art Space Hohwa until November 9, featuring more than 30 representative works, including pieces by the seven selected artists.

Meanwhile, the HOBAN Cultural Foundation continues to work toward providing the public with in-depth cultural and artistic experiences. Through various initiatives—such as the exhibition space Art Space Hohwa; the HOBAN Art Prize supporting mid-career and senior Korean artists; the creative space support program ‘H Art Lab’; and the ‘Art Workshop,’ a cultural arts support program for people with developmental disabilities—the foundation actively contributes to the advancement of the Korean arts and culture scene.
