The term “youth” refers to people of a young age, but it has also carried historical significance. In modern and contemporary Korean history, youth have often been regarded as those who pursue ideals such as innovation and progress, as well as critique and resistance. This understanding is closely tied to the turbulent and chaotic periods that young generations were compelled to endure throughout Korea’s modern history.

Examining the various figures of youth across different historical contexts not only offers an opportunity to revisit modern and contemporary history, but also provides a deeper perspective on the issues facing young people today.

This exhibition seeks to explore the changing representations of youth throughout history, with a particular focus on works of art. While each artist creates from their own distinct perspective, their works inevitably reflect the specific historical conditions in which they were produced. Through these artworks, we are able to vividly encounter the images of youth across different periods, conveyed through visual forms.
