Naver Logo Art Project: logo commemorating the 35th anniversary of Robot Taekwon V © Naver

Naver, Korea’s leading search portal operated by NHN (CEO Kim Sang-heon), has launched the ‘Naver Logo Art Project.’ As its first installment, a logo created by pop artist Lee Donggi was featured on the main page in celebration of the 35th anniversary of ‘Robot Taekwon V’.

Since introducing a special Christmas logo in 2008, Naver has continuously changed its logo not only for national holidays and traditional celebrations, but also for less widely recognized commemorative days such as the 30th anniversary of professional baseball in Korea, Newspaper Day, and the 400th anniversary of the completion of the Dongui Bogam. Through these initiatives, Naver has sought to encourage users to reflect on the significance of each occasion.

The newly launched ‘Naver Logo Art Project’ invites renowned artists from diverse fields, both domestic and international, to reinterpret the Naver logo. Through this initiative, Naver aims to inspire greater cultural and artistic interest among users, offering its daily audience of approximately 18 million people opportunities to encounter innovative artists and enjoy more diverse and engaging artistic experiences.

Robot Taekwon V, featured in this project, is a landmark Korean animation first released in 1976 and widely regarded as the origin of domestic robot animation. Lee Donggi, one of the most active pop artists today, reimagined Robot Taekwon V in a way that reflects the cultural context of 2011. As a result, younger generations unfamiliar with the original can also engage with this iconic cultural content.

Lee Donggi commented on his participation in the project, stating, “I feel proud to transform nostalgic content into art through the Naver logo, which people encounter multiple times a day.”

Kim Sang-heon, CEO of NHN, stated, “By incorporating artists’ creativity into Naver’s iconic main logo, we hope to remind people of culture and art in their everyday lives. We also expect that such efforts will help lower the barriers to art for the general public and ultimately increase public interest in the Korean art scene.”

Meanwhile, through its art search service, Naver provides access to approximately 8,000 artworks by both established artists such as Nam June Paik and Park Seo-bo, as well as emerging artists including Lee Donggi and Son Donghyun. The company also supports offline art events as an official sponsor, continuing its efforts to foster coexistence with the cultural sector.

In particular, in February, Naver sponsored the ‘Galleries Art Fair’ organized by the Korea Galleries Association, introducing modern and contemporary artworks exhibited at the fair through its platform. It is also set to participate as an official sponsor of the Korea International Art Fair (KIAF), scheduled to be held in September.
