The exhibition 《Sad Captions: Everything has Drifted Away, and I Can’t Put Any Word After “Sad”…》, curated by Jang Eunha and selected for the 〈2024 Emerging Artists Support Program〉, focuses on a wide spectrum of voices stemming from “sadness” amid contemporary desires to become desensitized to external events and experiences.

It explores “sadness” that has emerged from various contexts—from the 1990s to the 2020s—including racial discrimination, cyberbullying, climate crisis, and the pandemic. Through the exhibition, viewers encounter fragments of speech and images left behind by the subject of sadness, the “I,” and in doing so, they may arrive at their own unique sadness, write their own “caption,” and form new relationships.

Rather than reducing, categorizing, or analyzing the causes of “my sadness” and attempting to explain it, 《Sad Captions: Everything has Drifted Away, and I Can’t Put Any Word After “Sad”…》 provides a space in which multiple “I”s and their sadnesses wait to be described through each viewer.
