《Border-less.site》 exhibition was developed as part of Culture Station Seoul 284’s regional research/exhibition initiative; an initiative that has previously included 《DMZ》 (2019) and 《Gaeseong Industrial Complex》 (2018). The Gyeongui train line from Seoul Station would have stopped at Gaeseong, Pyongyang, Sinuiju, Dandong, and Beijing via the Dorasan Station in Paju, and it therefore feels like a natural step that Sinuiju and Dandong have been highlighted following the two preceding projects.

Using findings from the research as its introduction, the exhibition consists of three parts: ‘Border Area: Time of Hybridity’, ‘Othering: The Blind Spot of Perception’, and ‘Performative Attempts around the Border’. It showcases various works that attempt to recontextualize the archive of border crossing materials, which has been attempted in this area on numerous occasions.

The commissioned artworks can be understood better as works that share the aftereffects of an intense experience on various levels, rather than simply as completed artworks. Most of the works not only dismantle the physical boundaries, but also allow the audience to conduct a performative review of border-crossing that blurs the vague psychological boundaries within us.
