From November 6 to November 26, 2020, Space Willing N Dealing presented Jamyoung Koo’s solo exhibition 《Development of editing methods for website structure》.

Koo perceives web screens — usually recognized as images — through their directory structures. He views the systems of physical exhibition spaces as structural networks and is particularly interested in the invisible boundaries that exist between them. In this exhibition, six spaces familiar to the artist through web programs are reproduced: Space Willing N Dealing, MMCA (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art), SEMA (Seoul Museum of Art), AVP Lab, ASJC (Art Sonje Center), and Fondation d’Entreprise Hermès. Koo analyzed their website structures, then dismantled, reconstructed, and materialized them using his unique methodology, presenting the outcomes.

The artist substituted the hardware of exhibition spaces with software. He then reconstructed these spaces using a visualization program that represents molecular structures, as a method of reducing the architecture of websites into networks. To achieve this, the information from the websites of the exhibition spaces was converted into numerical values and reconfigured into new molecular units.

The boundaries of the reconstructed exhibition spaces — processed through the program — are linked to the actual venues via servers (computers that connect to the websites), extending into a new kind of space. Inside Space Willing N Dealing, the exhibition was staged as a lab-like environment, rebuilt into six experimental spaces made up of these six molecular units.
