The exhibition 《Stocker》, curated by Jooyeon Lee—selected for the Seoul Museum of Art’s “2023 Emerging Artists Support Program”—was held from October 5 (Thu) to October 29 (Sun) at SeMA Storage. Curator Jooyeon Lee has been experimenting with exhibition formats that explore the conventional operations of art shows, seeking dynamic and alternative approaches.

《Stocker》 begins from a critical perspective on the current condition in which, due to shifts in media environments, artworks are often consumed as flattened digital images—similar to those found on stock image platforms—rather than experienced directly. The six participating artists—Seungil Kim, Yesle Kim, Hayne Park, Ikkyun Shin, Lia Choi, and Subin Choi—explore sculpture as a medium with volume and weight, one that resists easy reduction into two-dimensional image.

Using the existing wooden shelving inside SeMA Storage as a framework of x, y, and z axes, the exhibition allows for a spatial and dimensional experience of sculpture. In doing so, it questions the role and attitude of exhibitions in the face of a rapidly evolving media landscape and reconsiders how artworks should be encountered today.
