Presented as part of the Seoul Museum of Art’s 2021 Emerging Artists Exhibition Support Program, Eunsol Lee’s exhibition 《KIMBERLY EXTRACT》 focuses on the movements of a virtual figure named “Kimberly,” constructed within a fictional space. The exhibition introduces this character through a web-based VR environment and video installations. The videos, based on moments of Kimberly’s movement, metamorphosis, fragmentation, and synthesis, temporarily occupy the exhibition space by appropriating the architectural style of the so-called “McMansion.” Within the gallery, a video installation captures Kimberly in various environments. Viewers can also access the work in an extended format through QR codes that lead to the webVR experience.

Through the character of Kimberly Lee, Eunsol Lee observes and traces contemporary entities that exist across multiple realities, presenting them in the form of video imagery. The name “Kimberly” originates from an incident in 2017, when the artist’s Instagram account was hacked and the hacker changed the username to kimberly. The artist remained unaware of the change for nearly a year. Since then, Lee has continued to produce a series of projects to sustain Kimberly’s existence, and this sense of responsibility toward a virtual character has become a primary motivation for his work.

In May 2020, the artist co-produced Doomsday Video (2020) with artist Yoon Choi. Simultaneously, he has been serializing Happy Easter (2020–) via his Instagram account.
