Kim Heecheon has been awarded the 20th Hermes Foundation Art Prize.

Established in 2000, the Hermes Foundation Art Prize has been discovering and supporting some of the most talented and prominent contemporary Korean artists, including Do Ho Suh, Gimhongsok, and Lim Minouk.

The prize includes a cash award, production support for a new work to be exhibited, and the opportunity to participate in the Hermes Foundation Residency Program in Paris, France. Kim Heecheon’s solo exhibition is scheduled to be held in the second half of 2024 at Atelier Hermes, an exhibition space located on the basement floor of Maison Hermes Dosan Park.

The jury commented, "Kim Heecheon’s work utilizes technologies commonly used in everyday life to address the most challenging and urgent questions of our digital age, including issues related to humanity, the body, emotions, memory, imagination, and furthermore, the reconstruction of self-awareness."

The jury for this year's Hermes Foundation Art Prize consisted of six members: Sunjung Kim, Artistic Director of Art Sonje Center; Sook-Kyung Lee, Senior Curator at Tate Modern, London, UK; Doryun Chong, Deputy Director of M+ Museum, Hong Kong; Guillaume Désanges, Director of Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France; Hou Hanru, Artistic Director of MAXXI, National Museum of 21st Century Arts, Rome, Italy; and Laurent Pejoux, Director of the Hermes Foundation.
