On the 18th, Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced that it held the awards ceremony for the ‘S.H.A.A (SNU ICA Hyundai E&C Art Awards)’ Public Art Competition on the 14th at the auditorium of Seoul National University.

Now in its second edition, the ‘S.H.A.A’ Public Art Competition is an industry–academia collaboration project jointly hosted by Hyundai Engineering & Construction and the Seoul National University Institute of Contemporary Arts. The project was designed to introduce artistic value into residential spaces.

Targeting students currently enrolled at Seoul National University, the competition invited works across a wide range of genres—including painting, sculpture, craft, and media—making it particularly meaningful as a platform for discovering the creativity of young artists.

The awards ceremony was attended by the finally selected artists and teams, as well as key figures such as Choi Gwang-ho, Head of the Architectural Housing Design Division at Hyundai Engineering & Construction; Park Gwiseong, Head of the Exterior Team; Lee Joong-sik, Director of the Seoul National University Institute of Contemporary Arts; and Park Jesung, Vice Dean of the College of Fine Arts.

The Grand Prize was awarded to sculptural artist Jeong Eunhyeong for On Care. The work depicts a child growing comfortably and equally in the arms of a parent, conveying meanings of warm bonds and protection.

The Excellence Award was given to Kim Jisu for EUZY and Kwon Hyun Bhin for Blue Memory. The Merit Awards went to Kim Taehun for World Remix, Kim Youngmi for Shiver, and a collaborative work by Kwon Jeong-ryun and two others titled Mist Totem. Prize money of KRW 5 million for the Grand Prize, KRW 3 million for the Excellence Awards, and KRW 1 million for the Merit Awards was presented respectively.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction has installed the six selected award-winning works at sites including ‘The H Daechi Edelui’, ‘Hillstate Lake Songdo 4th’, and ‘Hillstate Hwanho Park’, expanding opportunities for residents to experience artworks within landscaped areas of their living environments.

Meanwhile, five works that received awards at the first edition of the competition were previously installed at the ‘Olympic Park Foreon’ complex. A representative from Hyundai Engineering & Construction stated, “Through active industry–academia collaboration, we are discovering emerging artists and contributing to the development of public art, while creating outdoor spaces where landscape and art converge to bring art into everyday life. We will continue to enhance our brand value and expand opportunities for participation and experience in creative activities through a wide range of cultural and artistic support programs.”
