Hermès Korea announced on the 28th that artist Yoon Young Park (41) has been selected as the recipient of the 2009 Hermès Foundation Art Award.

Her award-winning work, Voice of the Black Bird, is an installation that begins with a glass marble gifted by her nephew and unfolds into a story that traverses the realms of past, present, and imagination. The piece is composed of folding screens, wall installations, silk paintings, and pictogram works.

The judging panel remarked, “The poetic balance of fragments that articulate contemporaneity while freely traversing past and present was remarkable.”

The winner receives a prize of 20 million KRW, and the winning work will be exhibited alongside the works of other finalists such as Hwayeon Nahm and Jae Oon Rho until November 15 on the third floor of Maison Hermès Dosan Park in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu.

Established in 2000, the Hermès Foundation Art Award is organized by Hermès Korea and sponsored by the Hermès Foundation. Past recipients include Yang Ah Ham, Kim Beom, Bahc Yiso, Do Ho Suh, Chankyong Park, Koo Jeong A, Minouk Lim, Sung Hwan Kim, and Sanghee Song.

Meanwhile, Atelier Hermès will host a solo exhibition by artist Kimsooja starting January 8 of next year.
