The Korean Cultural Centre UK (Director: Jeongwoo Lee) announced on the 31st (local time) that it will host a solo exhibition by artist Jewyo Rhii, selected as the Artist of the Year 2020, at its London venue through January 23 next year.

Joojo Jeong previously received the 2019 Artist of the Year Award from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) in recognition of her pioneering practice, which proposes alternative platforms that transcend the physical and temporal boundaries of the exhibition space.

Titled ‘Love Your Depot_London’, the exhibition presents Jeong’s experimental project that reimagines the art storage system as an alternative model—unfolding not only within the exhibition space but also across online platforms.

The online opening, held on November 27 at the Centre, featured digital congratulatory messages and performances by international peers including Charles Esche (Director of the Van Abbemuseum), Henk Visch, Minouk Lim, and Seoyoung Chung.

Since 2014, the Korean Cultural Centre UK has run the Artist of the Year program to spotlight Korean artists who have achieved significant recognition or are actively engaged in the field of contemporary art. Each year, the Centre collaborates with leading art institutions in the UK to select artists and provide them with opportunities to exhibit locally. Past recipients include Lee Bul (2014), Sora Kim (2015), Koo Jeong A (2016), Yong-Ik Kim (2017), Yunchul Kim (2018), and Jungseok Kang (2019).

This year’s exhibition is organized in collaboration with Locus+, a contemporary art commissioning agency based in Newcastle, in the northeast of England.
