The Children’s Gallery at the Busan Museum of Art has organized curated exhibitions that awaken children’s artistic sensibilities and open their imaginations through contemporary art themed around light and sound. In 2020 it hosted 《Neverland Lightland: The Land of Light and Imagination》, and as its first exhibition of 2021 it presents 《Neverland Soundland: Byungjun Kwon – Sound Walk》, featuring artist Byungjun Kwon, who is opening new horizons in Korean sound art.

Wide-ranging sounds created by Kwon are conveyed through visual or musical instruments he has invented, and the audience observe his works while listening to them, moving their body and feeling the vibration. The exhibition features 3D Sound Theater for Children, a special environment for experiencing sound; Wind Chime and Landscape, a work inspired by the musical scale of the pyeonggyeong (a traditional Korean lithophone); the speaker installation Hanging Garden; and the participatory work Gestures of Songs.

Outdoors, visitors can don headphones and stroll around the museum grounds to listen to Forest of Subtle Truth 4 – Lullabies from Multicultural Families. Through these works, children are given the opportunity to directly experience sound art at the forefront of contemporary art and to understand the diversity of today’s practices that encourage appreciation through multiple senses such as hearing and touch. Listening to the sounds embedded in the works will enrich children’s imaginations, while play and performance will nurture creative thinking and offer a joyful encounter with art.
