The SongEun Art and Cultural Foundation announced on the 13th that media artist Kwon Hyewon has been selected as the Grand Prize winner of The 19th SongEun Art Award. The Excellence Awards were given to Kwak Eve (installation), Lee Eunsil (Korean painting), and Cha Ji-liang (media).

A total of 260 applicants participated in the preliminary round held in January this year. Through an online portfolio review, 29 artists were selected to advance to the final round, where they were required to submit one new work. Kwak Eve, Kwon Hyewon, Lee Eunsil, and Cha Ji-liang were ultimately shortlisted as the final four candidates.

Kwon Hyewon, the Grand Prize winner, studied at the Korea National University of Arts, School of Film, TV and Multimedia, received an MA in Fine Art Media from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, and recently completed her PhD in Media Arts at the University of Reading. She has primarily worked on video-based narratives that explore places embedded with specific events or memories. She has held four solo exhibitions, including 《A Room of Eight Men》(2012), 《Vietnam Memoir》(2012), 《Joseon Tourist Group_Gyeongseong Edition》(2013), and 《Manual for Invisible Video Journalism》(2018).
