The exhibition 《Public Art New Hero》, which introduces contemporary visual artists of outstanding capability, is jointly organized by the monthly magazine Public Art and the K&L Museum, and is held from July 5 to July 25. Now in its sixth edition, this year’s exhibition presents creative and experimental paintings, sculptures, installations, and video works by 29 artists leading the contemporary art scene, providing a platform for broad cultural exchange and an opportunity to view the works of promising artists in one place.

Highlighting the fresh practices of artists who approach art from multiple angles, this exhibition serves as an occasion to encounter the next generation of leaders in the Korean art world and as a site of mutual exchange among artists and professionals that expands the boundaries of art, thereby contributing to the broadening of Korea’s cultural foundation.

The exhibition includes artists from past editions of Public Art New Hero: In-tan Kwak, Minjeong Kim, Chaelin Kim, Kwanwoo Park, Seokwon Yoon, Minseon Lee, and Jimin Lim (2021); Wonjin Kim, Unhappy Circuit, Ipgyu Jang, Mingyu Choi, Jiwon Choi, Sooyoung Heo, and Sejin Hong (2022); Younggyu Kim, Jungeun Kim, Hyunseok Kim, Heesoo Kim, Hyuntak Noh, Sunghyeop Seo, and Woongcheol Lee (2023); and Daye Kwon, Youngjin Kim, Jimin Kim, Deokjong Lee, Jinhyung Lee, Eunkyung Lim, Younggak Cho, and Junghyun Hwang (2024).

Across the diversity of experiments, each work testifies to new cultural and artistic values, articulating the artist’s own narratives while also actively addressing the political, economic, and cultural realities of the society in which it was produced and consumed. For this reason, the exhibition draws attention not only to the imagery of the works but also to their embedded content.
