The Amorepacific Museum of Art (Director: Seungchong Jeon) presents the contemporary art project 《apmap 2022 seoul - apmap review》. The exhibition runs from September 29 to December 18 at the Amorepacific Museum of Art in Yongsan, Seoul.

“apmap” (amorepacific museum of art project) is a contemporary art project the museum has carried out since 2013. It was conceived to discover and support promising emerging Korean artists and thereby contribute to the activation of public art and the development of contemporary art.

This exhibition is significant as a survey that looks back on seven editions held over the past ten years and, at the same time, as the first group exhibition of Korean artists to be presented at the museum’s Yongsan venue.

This year’s apmap exhibition keyword is “review.” Twenty-two artist teams who presented outdoor installations at Amorepacific sites in Osan, Yongin, and Jeju between 2013 and 2019 are participating. For this edition, the participating artists have produced new works situated on a continuum with their previous practices, now conceived for the museum space.

From the latest issues—such as the environment and AI—to autobiographical experiences, each artist’s concerns are embodied in new works across a range of genres including sculpture, installation, media, sound, architecture, ceramics, and design. In addition, the artists took part in recording the audio guide, offering a special experience in which they speak about their works in their own voices.

According to the Amorepacific Museum of Art, “This exhibition is a great opportunity to reaffirm the significance of the apmap project, as it allows visitors to encounter new works by artists who have achieved transformation and growth in their practices alongside the project. We also hope it will serve as a chance to bring installation art and audiences—distanced during the long COVID era—back together in close proximity.”
